Exchange & application at University of Luxembourg

Start with nomination, application, Learning Agreement, insurance and arrival documents. Do not treat courses as final until confirmed.

Requirements

The critical part is making the teaching language, seats, prerequisites and Learning Agreement fit before arrival. Do not assume every course visible online is available for exchange.

📨Nomination Process

The home university nominates first; the host application follows.

🧭Orientation Week

🗓️Deadlines by intake

Intake Nomination deadline Application deadline
Winter Semester Or Full Year 15 April-1 May depending on citizenship/partner portal; Uni.lu requires online nomination by the home university. 15 May for winter semester or full academic year.
Summer Semester 15 October for summer semester. 1 November for summer semester.

Arrival Checklist

  • Upload or bring valid health-insurance proof
  • Confirm courses and Learning Agreement with the coordinator
  • Activate IT, library and campus services

  • Join ESN, clubs or welcome events before social groups harden

Academics & courses at University of Luxembourg

Academics at University of Luxembourg means checking ECTS, teaching language, seats and exams before the Learning Agreement is final. Academic fit is the difference between an excellent international semester and an impossible timetable.

📝Course Registration

Course choice is handled by faculty and agreement: check catalogue, teaching language, seats, prerequisites and timetable compatibility before locking the Learning Agreement. Uni.lu recommends being able to follow lectures and exams in the teaching language, normally at B2 level, so the semester is not academically impossible.

🎓Credit System

Uni.lu uses ECTS. For exchange, the exact credit load must be agreed with the home university; do not mix full-degree logic with mobility, because recognition rules depend on agreement, faculty and programme.

💯Grading System

Grades are converted at home, not by guesswork. Ask your coordinator which scale applies and keep syllabi, credits, assessment methods and the transcript so recognition is defensible after return.

✍️Exam Culture

Assessment can combine written exams, essays, projects, presentations, labs or attendance depending on faculty. In Belval/Kirchberg, check exams and submissions before booking flights because the academic calendar can extend beyond the last class.

📚Library Access

After enrolment, plan library, digital resources, study rooms and IT access. Belval concentrates much of campus life, but if you have classes in Kirchberg or Limpertsberg you need a real train/tram routine between buildings.

Tuition & fees at University of Luxembourg

Separate exchange, local fees, housing and full-degree tuition. Exchange tuition is not the same thing as an international degree fee.

EXCHANGE

EUR 0 host tuition where a valid exchange agreement applies; housing, insurance and local costs still apply.

Exchange agreement logic is separate from full-degree tuition.

Full degree - international

Many official programme brochures list EUR 200-400/semester; specialised programmes can be higher, for example EUR 2,000/semester or EUR 4,500/year in Uni.lu brochures.

Fees depend on programme, semester and faculty; always check the specific programme page.

Local/regional student

Same programme-by-programme logic: many public Bachelor/Master brochures list EUR 200-400/semester, with exceptions by programme.

Do not apply this range to exchange mobility; exchange depends on the agreement.

Fees change annually — verify current rates on the official exchange office page

Insurance & campus support at University of Luxembourg

Insurance and campus support at University of Luxembourg are not side notes: EHIC or equivalent proof, SEVE, Student Services, housing and wellbeing should be activated in week one. Poor insurance paperwork can slow enrolment.

🛡️Mandatory Insurance

Yes. To finalise enrolment, Uni.lu requires valid health-insurance proof for the study period. Arriving without EHIC, affiliation or clear private insurance can block admin more than a missing course.

🇪🇺EHIC Accepted

For EU/EEA/Swiss students, the EHIC can work if it is valid and covers the semester. If you do not have a valid EHIC, prepare affiliation proof or private insurance with exact coverage dates.

🏥Campus Clinic

Uni.lu should not be treated as a single campus clinic. Use local doctors/services for ordinary healthcare and Student Services/SEVE for guidance; emergencies in Luxembourg use 112.

🧠Mental Health

Student Services includes wellbeing and mental-health support, inclusion/disability guidance and student orientation. Contact them early if you need adjustments, psychological support or help navigating local services.

EHIC / European public insurance

Usually no extra fee if already covered

Works only if it covers the full period and your personal status.

Depends on status

Useful if you are resident, partly employed or not covered by EHIC.

Common backup for non-EU students or for gaps before affiliation.
