Exchange & application at Stellenbosch University

Requirements

Formal nomination from your home university, completion of SU's exchange application once an access code is issued, and a maximum course load of 60 RSA credits per semester (equivalent to a full-time SU student's load).

📨Nomination Process

Your home university's international office submits a formal nomination. No application is considered without it. Once received, SU's Semester Mobility Office issues you an access code to complete your own application. For questions, contact the Exchange Coordinator for Incoming Exchanges, Ms Alecia Erasmus (aleciaerasmus@sun.ac.za, +27 21 808 9437).

🗓️Deadlines by intake

Intake Nomination deadline Application deadline
Semester 1 (Feb-Jun) Confirm with the Exchange Coordinator (aleciaerasmus@sun.ac.za) — dates vary by partner agreement Issued via access code after nomination
Semester 2 (Jul-Nov) Confirm with the Exchange Coordinator (aleciaerasmus@sun.ac.za) — dates vary by partner agreement Issued via access code after nomination

Arrival Checklist

  • Confirm your home university has formally nominated you before booking flights — SU will not issue an access code without it.
  • Apply separately for accommodation as soon as you're nominated — academic admission alone does not secure you a place to stay.
  • Pay the compulsory Exchange Administrative Fee (EAF, amount set annually) before registration.
  • Arrange medical cover from a South African Council for Medical Schemes-registered provider — required for all international students.
